Between 1977 and 1984, the collection offered 24mm, 34mm, and 37mm models, with cases made of 18K gold, stainless steel, two-tone gold, and diamond-set versions. The modern Ref. 222 is based on the 37mm model known as the "Jumbo." Although 37mm is no longer the standard size for men's watches and is even considered "small diameter," the name "Jumbo" has been retained, perhaps for the sake of heritage. As a luxury sports watch, the Ref. 222 features an integrated case back and bracelet, a toothed bezel, and the brand's iconic Maltese cross engraved at 5 o'clock, making it one of its most recognizable design features. The historic Ref. 222 features a closed case back and is powered by the Vacheron Constantin Caliber 1121 movement. This movement uses a free-sprung balance with a frequency of 19,800 vibrations per hour, setting a benchmark for ultra-thin automatic movements of its time. It is a modified version of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 920, sharing a certain lineage with the Patek Philippe clone Calibre 28-255 and Audemars Piguet Calibre 2120/2121. 

The modern Ref. 222 retains the core design of the original while optimizing and improving some details to better suit modern aesthetics and usage habits. It continues the original's calendar feature, with the date window located at 3 o'clock. The baton hands are coated with luminescent material, echoing the hour markers. The most significant improvement from the original is the addition of a see-through case back. Through the sapphire crystal, the 2455/2 movement can be observed. Unlike the historical model, which was a modified version of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 920, the 2455/2 is a completely in-house movement, with the Geneva Seal engraved on the movement plates.

The Vacheron Constantin Calibre 2455/2 has a diameter of 26.3 mm and a thickness of only 3.6 mm, a frequency of 28,800 VPH, and a power reserve of 40 hours. In homage to the original, the 22K gold rotor is engraved with the number "222". In 2025, the Ref. 222 series will introduce a stainless steel model – also derived from historical timepieces. Aside from the material difference, the two watches are essentially identical in specifications, including a 7.95mm case thickness, extensive brushed finish, the same movement and transparent case back, and 50-meter water resistance.
